Forever Young These tiny, innocent girls will grow up someday. Audrey will no longer wear my old t-shirts as nightgowns. Willa will no longer use the “upside down fist pump” as her go-to dance move. They are so bright and fiery and full of music and life. And I pray that never changes. These precious treasures, here is my hope for them:

As their wisdom blooms, may their innocence never wane.

As they practice faithful perseverance in the mundane days, may the mundane never extinguish the fire that burns resolutely in their souls.

As they add more years to their life, may they never lose the bright hope and possibility of youth.

As they grow in awareness, may they never become self-conscious, but full of compassion.

As they discover what they’ve been put on this earth to do and to be, may they never allow fear or insecurity to hold them back.

As they realize how DOG.GONE. beautiful they are, may they see and celebrate the beauty in others.

As they expand in influence, may they grow in humility.

As they dance forward in life, may they not succumb to the pressure to follow someone else’s music.

Right now, one of Audrey’s favorite songs is “Forever Young”. In this household, you better believe we are instilling respect for the wisdom of Bob Dylan. She’s also obviously drawing some musical inspiration from him, thus the harmonica. **Little side note: my husband generously gifted her with a shiny harmonica set….right before he left for work one day. Well played, babe. But just you wait. Someday, I’m going to go away for a girls’ weekend and give her a trumpet right before I leave. Be forewarned. The day of reckoning is coming.**

But honestly, in moments like those in that video, I am so glad I live in a house where little girls play harmonicas. I’m so glad those girls will grow up in a home full of loud music, exuberant love, and endless possibility.

Play some Dylan in your house today and pray this for all our children:

“May God bless and keep you always

May your wishes all come true

May you always do for others

And let others do for you

May you build a ladder to the stars

And climb on every rung

May you stay forever young

Forever young, forever young

May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous

May you grow up to be true

May you always know the truth

And see the lights surrounding you

May you always be courageous

Stand upright and be strong

May you stay forever young

Forever young, forever young

May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy

May your feet always be swift

May you have a strong foundation

When the winds of changes shift

May your heart always be joyful

And may your song always be sung

May you stay forever young

Forever young, forever young

May you stay forever young.”

-Bob Dylan
